Aajtalkss,kolkata:The state government has announced a special football tournament to commemorate Swami Vivekananda’s historic Chicago speech. Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Aroop Biswas informed in a press conference in Kolkata that the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, in collaboration with the IFA, will organize the event at the district level. He mentioned that on September 11, 1893, Swamiji delivered his famous speech at the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago, and in the same year the Indian Football Association was formed. To mark the 133rd anniversary of this historic occasion, the Vivekananda Cup District Club Football Championship has been planned. From each of the 23 districts, 8 clubs will be selected to participate. The tournament will begin on September 11 at Belur Math grounds and will continue till March with a total of 390 matches. The total prize money has been fixed at 50 lakh rupees.
