ATNN, Kolkata: Kolkata came alive with the vibrant hues and soulful traditions of Rajasthan as Marudhar Mela unfolded on 28 December under the aegis of Marwari Sanskrit Manch.

Led by Vikash Poddar, the cultural extravaganza offered an immersive celebration of Rajasthani art, heritage, cuisine and folk expressions, bringing together the spirit of the desert state in the heart of the city.

A key attraction of the evening was a specially curated cultural programme by Kkhubii, a creative and cultural platform incubated by IIM Bangalore and NSRCEL Mumbai, guided by Shrestha Ganguly, who seamlessly blended contemporary narratives with rooted cultural storytelling.

The showcase featured a captivating Rajasthani folk dance performance by acclaimed dancer Avirup Sengupta and his troupe, whose energetic presentation reflected the rhythm, colour and storytelling essence of Rajasthan’s folk traditions.


Envisioned as a vibrant cultural confluence, Marudhar Mela offered visitors an enriching experience through authentic Rajasthani cuisine, traditional art forms and dynamic performances, welcoming audiences of all ages.

With a footfall of approximately 5,000 to 7,000 visitors, the event emerged as one of the most eagerly awaited cultural gatherings of the season in Kolkata, celebrating identity, community and shared heritage while bringing the soul of Rajasthan to the city in an evening of colour, culture and collective joy.
