ATNN, Kolkata: The primary school ground of St. Xavier’s Collegiate School turned lively on 28th February as Loreto College, Kolkata hosted its Annual Sports Day for the academic year 2025–2026. The day blended athletic competition with college camaraderie, drawing enthusiastic participation from students across departments and institutions.
Gracing the occasion were Anusri Ghosh, Chairperson of the Athletic Commission of the Volleyball Federation of India, who attended as the Guest of Honour, and international table tennis player Shreya Ghosh as the Chief Guest. Their presence added an inspirational touch to the event as they interacted with participants and encouraged the spirit of sportsmanship.
The Sports Day unfolded as both an inter-college and an interdepartmental meet. Teams from St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata, Jadavpur University, Presidency University, Kolkata, Bhawanipur Education Society College, Shri Shikshayatan College, Bethune College and NSHM Knowledge Campus joined the competition with enthusiasm. The inter-college segment featured events for both men and women, including a 75m flat race, a 50m relay and tug-of-war. St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata emerged as the overall champions.
Within the college, departments competed in a series of spirited events such as flat races, sack races, skipping races, relays and tug-of-war. The Department of Psychology stood out during the day, securing the overall championship as well as the award for the best March Past.
The day wrapped up with a prize distribution ceremony celebrating teamwork, dedication and the joy of healthy competition. Laughter, cheers and the rhythm of marching feet marked a Sports Day that was both vibrant and memorable for everyone present.
