Kolkata, 27 March 2026: The Election Commission of India has launched a creative voter awareness initiative in Howrah district, roping in the beloved animated character Chhota Bheem to boost participation ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections.
The initiative is part of the Commission’s ongoing SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) programme, aimed at making the electoral process more inclusive, engaging, and accessible—especially for young and first-time voters. The campaign carries the slogan “Chunav Ka Parv, Paschim Bengal Ka Garv,” encouraging citizens to actively take part in the democratic process.
Polling for the state assembly elections will be conducted in two phases on 23 and 29 April 2026, while counting of votes and declaration of results are scheduled for 4 May 2026.
A senior election official stated that integrating Chhota Bheem into the campaign is expected to make voter awareness efforts more engaging and relatable for families and younger audiences. The character’s widespread popularity and strong recall across age groups make him an effective medium for communicating civic messages.
Commenting on the collaboration, Rajiv Chilaka, Founder and CEO of Green Gold Animation, said the initiative aligns with the studio’s broader commitment to public interest campaigns, including efforts in literacy, public safety, and education. He noted that the partnership aims to make voter awareness more visible, memorable, and participative, while fostering a positive civic spirit.
Chhota Bheem, one of India’s most recognised animated figures, has previously been part of public awareness initiatives in select regions, reflecting a growing trend of using entertainment-driven communication to deliver important civic messages. Similar outreach efforts, including campaigns by Western Railways, have demonstrated the effectiveness of creative digital and on-ground engagement in reaching diverse audiences.
Founded in 2001, Green Gold Animation is a leading Indian animation studio headquartered in Hyderabad, known for creating original children’s content such as Chhota Bheem and Mighty Raju, and expanding into films, digital platforms, and global markets.
