ATNN, Kolkata: An innovative celebration of International Women’s Day was organised on March 7 by Srabonti Kalakendra, a socio-cultural organisation affiliated with My Bharata Yuva Kendra. The programme took place at Shakuntala Park Paul Enclave and combined cultural celebration with a meaningful awareness initiative aimed at empowering women in the local community.

While the event celebrated the achievements of women from diverse walks of life, it also featured a special awareness camp focused on hygiene and health. The session sought to sensitise local women to the importance of maintaining hygienic practices, particularly in households where women often shoulder the responsibility of caring for children and the elderly. Officials from the globally recognised consumer hygiene brand Unicharm conducted the interactive session, highlighting essential aspects of personal and family hygiene.

On the occasion, the principal of Srabonti Kalakendra, Nritya Guru Sraboni Roy, presented the Tumi Ananyaa Samman 2026 to three distinguished individuals for their notable achievements. The honourees included Suchismita Chakraborty, a meritorious law student who secured the All India third rank in the ISC examination; Sohini Chatterjee, a gold medallist in Rabindra Nritya; and noted social worker Mala Sen, director of New Gitarani Briddhashram and Handicapped Home.

The programme also featured a series of cultural performances by students of Srabonti Kalakendra, including dance presentations by Rajanya Sardar, Samadrita Mistry, Srija Das and Dona Mahato. A special highlight of the event was a recitation by young performer Master Rishan. The awareness session was conducted by Sheikh Nazir and Barnali Shome of Unicharm.

In a moment of special recognition, a commemorative postal stamp issued by India Post was released in honour of social worker Mala Sen. Expressing her gratitude, Sen remarked that the gesture would inspire her to continue her service to society with renewed dedication.

The event was compered by veteran journalist Tapas Roy. Founded more than three decades ago, Srabonti Kalakendra has been nurturing cultural excellence for 33 years, offering training in a wide range of music and dance forms from the preparatory to the Master’s level. The institution functions under the leadership of Nritya Guru Sraboni Roy, who is also the author of the acclaimed book Taal Katha.
